Better Back Health Starts Before You Leave the Office

man at office with back painIf your back has been talking to you lately, there’s a good chance your desk is part of the conversation. That’s not a criticism. Sitting is just what the job requires. But knowing what’s actually happening back there, and having a few things in your corner, makes a real difference in how you feel by the end of the day.

The office workers I see aren’t doing anything wrong. They just need a few strategies that fit into a real workday. That’s the part we figure out together.
Dr. Michael Calhoun

Your Chair Isn’t the Culprit (Mostly)

It’s tempting to blame the chair, the monitor height, the laptop setup. And sure, those things matter. But the bigger issue is simpler: the body doesn’t love staying in one position for hours at a time, no matter how ergonomic the setup is. Pressure builds in the lower back, certain muscles quietly check out, and by four pm you’re shifting around trying to find a position that doesn’t bother you.

Sound familiar? It’s pretty common. It’s also pretty fixable.

Movement is a Lot Less Complicated Than People Make It

You don’t need a standing desk or a lunchtime gym routine to feel better. Getting up a few times an hour, even just for a minute or two, does more for your lower back than most people expect. The body responds well to variety. Give it a little, and it tends to reward you.

This is actually one of the first things Dr. Calhoun works through with desk workers because the habits you build during the day shape how your back feels by the end of the day. Home exercise guidance and movement strategies are a regular part of care here, not an afterthought. The goal is always to give patients something practical they can actually use between visits.

Your Back Deserves More Than Surviving the Workweek

Calhoun Chiropractic works with plenty of North Andover desk workers who are done with just pushing through. If that sounds familiar, come in and see what a little attention to the right things can do.
